Tzedaka (Charity)
To build on the merit of this great mitzvah, please consider giving tzedaka to one of the following organizations. Our sages teach us that tzedaka is a uniquely powerful mitzvah. When it comes to Yom Kippur we know that there are three things which help us avert harsh judgements: tefillah (prayer), teshuva (repentance) and tzedaka. The presence of tzedaka on the list shows us the great power of this mitzvah and again speaks to the concept that G-d shows us compassion as we show compassion to others. Furthermore, we know that G-d rewards us for our mitzvot be it in this world or the world to come. However, our sages warn us against bargaining with G-d and asking for specific rewards in response to the performance of specific mitzvot. The Talmud [4] tells us that there is one exception to this rule - the mitzvah of ma'aser (tithes) which many of our sages [5] equate to the mitzvah of tzedaka. In the merit of our tzedaka may Hashem fulfill the heartfelt requests of us and the entire Jewish people for good, for life and for peace.
